李小龍 (Bruce Lee, My Brother) (2011)

the GOOD

6/10

“Do you wanna fight?”
Based on the memories of his brother and sister, this a (not exactly 100% acurate) version of Bruce Lee’s childhood, which isn’t told too often. Aarif Rahman isn’t too bad as Bruce, he does a fair enough imitation. We get to see a lot of his early acting jobs, they way he presumably lived as a kid and teenager until he was sent to america. However the many street fights which he had to go through when growing up are only hinted at, but they did include the school boxing match and a bit of Yip Man.
It’s well directed, though tyring a bit hard to be a feel-good film, tending towards melodrama at times. Even a nearly deadly fight ends in laughter…
