Les fruits de la passion (1981)

Director: Shûji Terayama

Like In the Realm of Senses, this must have caused quite some sensation, mainly because of the (at least one) unsimulated sex and Klaus Kinski. On a visual level, Les fruits de la passion is very impressive, with a variety of costumes, locations and weird playrooms. It’s more graphic than the usual pinku eiga and Kinski seems to be enjoying himself quite a lot while Isabelle Illiers is a perfect fit for the lead role of O, looking like a sad broken doll throughout. Not sure if the story can or should be taken too seriously, Shûji Terayama seemed more intrested in creating bizarre scenarios and his use of symbolism is a bit too obvious.
