Les démoniaques (The Demoniacs) (1974)

Director: Jean Rollin

“For God’s sake let me kill them!”
While the majority of Rollins films are vampire storys, this is a very dark tale of a gang of brutal, murderous, rapist, shipwreck looters led by “Captain”. It’s set around the late 19th or very early 20th century i’d say and while some of the performances are plain terrible, it makes up for the shortcomings by it’s haunting atmosphere, wonderful locations and unreal macabre imagery. Just like about all other films by Rolin, this has more in common with surreal dreams than actual storytelling and is filled with supernatural elements. It’s grotesque to say the least.
